SRETNA NOVA GODINA!!!! :o) Ida <keeponthinking@hotmail.com> Today, Jan. 31 1999, I am ready to recall the 54th anniversary of my
departure from Istria. My feelings of sorrow have not changed. The pain
has softened somewhat, but the wound and the scars will carry on into the
next millennium. My heart and conscience are at peace as I been faithful
to my culture and the teachings of my parents. PEACE TO ALL. Copyright @ 1946 - Franco G. AItala - ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. In Italia mancano 8 ore al CAPODANNO. Hi fellow istrian's, David Bancovich <davide_bancovich@tnt.com.au> I just wanted to wish all istriani all over the world a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year! Several local Istrian clubs in New York City began a tradition last year by posting their own page of holiday greetings on IstriaNet. This year's expanded greetings can be viewed by going to the Main Menu (click the blue text) and then select the Christmas bells in the menu. Hopefully, next year there will be even greater participation by
other Istrian organizations around the world. Congratulations on a great site! |

Vi ringrazio in anticipo....e rispondete a faitala@hotmail.com Site Rating: Excellent Whats up my fellow istriani? My name is Jordan Diminich. I'm 15. I'm a Croatian American. My mother (Renata Carcich) was born in Unije and my father born in Diminici aka Sveti Lovrec. My father came here from Istria ilegally on a boat, he was then sent back and came back legally in 1957. My mother came here in 1958, but she came with just her mother(Maria), because her father(John Carcich) was here for already 10 years, working and trying to support my grandmother and my mom and her sister so they would have enough money and get the papers to come over to the United States. My dad is part of the Istria Sports Club in Astoria, N.Y., me and him go there quite often on Sundays to eat and talk with my dads friend's. I recently visted Croatia last summer and go to Labin, Diminici, Unije, Mali Losinj, Novi Vinodolski, Rijeka, Crikvenica and Opatija. I found it all to be some of the most beautiful places i've ever seen. And even though Croatia is ran by some idiots and the economy and goverment aren't that good, I'm a very very proud Croatian American. I'm sure someone on the list knows me or my father though...and I was just wondering, if anyone's been to Diminici, Vlahkovo, Stanisovi and the surrounding area...how has it been doing? Last summer I visited my dads town and it was a ghost town, the old elementary school was crumbling and so were many of the houses. The only really thing on the upside I saw was that some Slovenian's were buliding a new house maybe a few kilometers away from my dad's. But other than that the town is in shambles (as of last summer). I doubt if anyone knows about this but, does anyone know how know how Unije is doing. Last summer they were in the midst of some construction and I never really got see the final outcome... Site Rating: Excellent I have had some of the best times of my life in Istra. The geographical beauty of the region combined with the hospitality of its people easily make Istra my favorite vacation destination. Whether I'm at the beach at Moscenicka Draga, or at the market-place in Opatija, there is no-where in the world that I'm more at home and at peace than in Istra. My father came to the U.S. from Istra, and I will more than likely end up moving there! Site Rating: Excellent Love the site. I was born and lived in Istria till I was 5 yrs old. I have not been to Istria yet - only made it as far as Venice, but hope to go some day and meet the remaining family. We went back about 8 generations, with nearly all of the family living in Rovinj. However, there are no graves in the Rovinj cemetery marked with that name, and several old folks we asked did not recall seeing any. Is there anybody out there who is a Trevisan, or is decended from a Trevisan, or knows about the family? Second, We will be returning to Istra again this summer and will most certainly visit a marvelous little restaurant we discovered last summer It is in the small village of Kotle, a right turn onto a white road on your way to Hum. The food and wine are excellent, and the proprietor, Djani, is the perfect host. Hum and Kotle are out of the way no matter where you are going, but take the time and trouble to visit both. It is our hope that perhaps you could be of some help or give us some direction in our search for this long lost uncle or any of his decendents. The following is some basic information we have about him. His mane is Giovanni Radessich (although in some of his later correspondence he replaced the "a" with an "o" to form Rodessich). He was born in Istria in September of 1907 and as previously stated left for Argentina in 1928. Thank you for taking time to read this e-mail and and apprieciate your interest in Isria and its people. Please feel free to contact us at our e-mail below. Best Regards, Aldo A. Site Rating: Excellent This is our first visit on Internet and we decided to see this pages. This summer we will drive all the way from Helsingborg to a little lovely village called Vines nearby Labin, where we use to spend our holiday in the summer,it is worth a visit. Site Rating: Excellent I have read stories about Istria, heard tales about Istria and listened to Istrian songs. Much of what I have heard has been spoken by the proprietor of the Croatian Islands Restaurant, a fine eating house near my home. Ivo is fervently Croatian and never stops singing the praises of his homeland. He is always insisting I go and have a look for myself. Istria is a long, long way from Perth, Australia, but I hope to visit there this year. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to catch a ferry from Trieste, Italy, to either Rovinj or Porec. I haven't been able to track those connections down on the Internet. Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards Terry Spence Site Rating: Excellent Ciao we are two new friends who have just discovered this site; we are going to visit it very often because we love Istria and the Istrian people. In Easter we will be on Sant' Andrea Island (Rovigno) and we are looking forward to it. Dalmazio e Vanni Site Rating: Excellent Hello Istriani, I was born in Trieste in 1954 and came to the US in 1956. My father has recently passed away and only left a vague picture of his hometown in Montona. All I know is that my grandfather was a blacksmith and my grandmother ran a bed and breakfast which was located in the lower valley of the town. If anyone knew my father, Benedetto Meladossi, or my mother, Bruna please leave a message on this site. Thanks, Gianfranco Meladossi Site Rating: Excellent Ci vorrebbe anche una versione in dialetto istriano! "comunitá di Visignano d'istria in esilio" is looking your
site. Our official paper "voce giuliana" now have a new site
"www. tip.it/voce giuliana" Site Rating: Excellent My family name is Spongia (Sponza). I am searching for anyone with
this family surname. My great grandfather Louis (Luri) Spongia came to
America around 1879. It is said that he came from the coast of the
Adriatic Sea (Yugoslavia). His father was a sailmaker (name might be Pedro
Sponza). Is there anyone with this surname or know of someone with this
surname. I was born in the USA and know it's been a while since my
grandfather left the area. I would very much like to learn about my roots
and the place of origin of the Spongia Name. Site Rating: Excellent VIVA ISTRIJANI!!!!!!! FALA BOGU CA SAN ISTRIJAN!!!!!!!! Site Rating: Excellent I love Slovenia and I going for holiday every summer. I go to Piran and Portoroz and i like this places. I wounder if it is someone who now a guy from Maribor who lives in Chicago, hi´s name is André and the nickname is Honey. He was in Portoroz last summer in august and he had a Corvette-car and I want to come in contact with this guy, but I have lost the adress. If someone now nothing about him please send me a mail. Is it someone from Sweden who planning to go to Slovenia and have holiday, write to me, maybe we can go together?? Site Rating: Excellent Hello to all my Istrian brothers and sisters! My mother is Croatian from Zagreb, and my father Greek (thus Christos). I was born in Boston and live there now, but I first came to Istra when I was six months old to be baptised in Pula. I have returned to Istra almost every year since. There is no place on earth I would rather be right now than at our home in Porec. I have many Istrian and Italian friends there and feel both Croatian and Istrian in heritage. What makes Croatia stand out from so many other European countries is not only its breathtaking beauty, but the diversity of all its regions. It was so nice to see both Istrian Croatians, Dalmatian Croatians, and Zagreb Croatians all cheering our national Soccer team together for the 1998 World Cup. I know that there is a "rift" between Croatians from other regions and Istrian Croatians, but most of that, I strongly believe, is politically fueled on many sides. Now that socialism has fallen and so much potential awaiti! ng Croatia, I know that this gap in understanding will be bridged. It hurts me so much to hear about Istrian political groups not wanting to be a part of Croatia and seeking secession. America is a country made up of so many different cultures, and while we certainly have our differences, our unity has made us the most powerful nation on earth. I love Istra more than any other region of Croatia, but I love Croatia as a whole, not in pieces. I know there are many that will never see it this way and I understand, but regardless I love Istra and only hope the best for its future. Thanks for creating such a great site. Site Rating: Excellent This is a wonderful site. My mother and her parents are from this area. I am in the process of putting together my family tree and have been trying to do research on this area. My mother's family lived in Piran. She still has relatives in the area. I am trying to find her aunt Vittoria Vesnaver in Pozeco, Vittoria was last known to be living in Venella PS Buie. Does anyone know how I can get a phone listing for this area. Or if anyone knows Vittoria please email me. My mother would love to speak with her aunt. My Mother's family moved from Piran to Trieste sometime in 1941. They then moved to the United States in 1951. Any help would be appreciated. Lisa DelVescovo Site Rating: Excellent Hello and Happy New Year to all. I have just found this website thanks to my cousin. I am first generation born in the states. I was born and raised in the Park Slope Section of Brooklyn. My parents came from Brdo. My father's last name was Malinaric until it was changed to Molinari when he became a citizen of the U.S.A. I am married to a Crotian born in the states, his parents came from the island of Krk. I do not speak croatian. I did speak Italian, but have forgotten almost everything. I do speak what my children call the "Lingo" which if my memory serves me right was spoken by only 5 villages in Istria. I have never been to Istria, but would love to go. My sister Livia was born in Brdo. I have no other siblings. I would especially like to communicate with Roberta. I think we knew each other when we were kids. If you took ballet lessons then you're the one I knew. I really don't know why that stands out in my mind. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the person or persons who set up this website. I wish my mom were alive, she would have loved this. Site Rating: Excellent Hi all, My father was born in Pula, and I am looking for family there. My father (Aldo Runco)left Pula in 1947 when communist rule took over. But his sister Ida and brother Giovanni stayed. Since the conflict in yugoslavia began we have lost contact with them. Anyone know the where abouts of anyone in Pula with the last name of Runco, or Pacarr or Falcone please email me. These are cousins, aunts, or uncles. Site Rating: Excellent Hi! Can any Faragunas mail me please?! love from ami Site Rating: Excellent Hello to everybody. Born in Italy in 1966 I would not be supposed to define myself an Istrian though my grandmother and my father were born in Pola (Pula) and lived many years in Pisin Vecio (Stari Pazin). I have been visiting Istria for about 25 yrs and some of my best friends were those lying near the late summer evenings fires speaking a strange mixture of hrvatski, italian, istrian dialect when the c'uk sang its song. I feel I am part of Istria as a heritage of my father and grandmother and I feel my ease with people from all over the world comes from the Istrian spirit. Hello to everybody. We are citizens of the World and in the same time sons and daughters of the hills and the seas of Istria. Luca Site Rating: Excellent Ti bin rec da san stori niki kambiamenti na mojoj web-stranici ku
