Hello...I was born in Gallignana, now Gracisce, near Pazin,in 1943,and left with my family in the Italian exodus in 1947 and now live in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. I last visited there about 4 years ago. I would enjoy corresponding with an English speaker who now lives in Istria for non-biased information about the area.
thank you...Silva Martini Schuster

my parents were originally from Istria, but they quit the company after 2nd world war and went to Germany. I still have a strong relationship to Istria, therefore I am happy to see that there is a huge community of Istrian people here.

hi, my father came to Australia on the Toscana in 1954 he arrived here on June 10th 1954.There are some photos of the ship taken by Guido Villa and i was just wondering (i know its a long shot ) did he know my father on the ship his name was Egidio Russo ,
maybe someone can help me i am trying to do some research and as yet cannot find much at all, thanks
Guido Sunday, 14 August 2011 18:31Host: c114-76-39-90.eburwd4.vic.optusnet.com.au
No wonder you are making no progress: you must give more details. I have a few pictures of the people at that time, but cannot remember the names. One, for instance, had a little baby girl. Were you born at that time? Others were single.
I sent you an email.

Julie,
For the benefit of other Guestbook readers, I note that Guido's personal photo albums of that period DID include several photos of your father. It's a small world after all! Can you please give us your impression on your new Istrian family connection? Thanks.

Julie, it was my understanding five years ago that Guido shared some photos with you via private emails. When he passed away three years ago, all his personal belongings were bequeathed to his relatives in Australia. He shared with me only a single file of three photos that he told me he sent to you. It is called 3Egidio.jpg. If you do not have it, I can email you another copy.

I am making a cookbook of family recipes as a gift to my daughter for her upcoming wedding (not for sale--just a color book for her and a dozen black-and-white copies for the rest of the family. My Italian grandmother made Crostoli. May I include this photo from your website (with attribution to istrinet.org) in our recipe book?

What a great set of photo's.
I did notice that one photo is the wrong way around for some reason (Venice, page 3, Scuola di San Marco), since I live nearby that square, it is really confusing (and interesting)

Hello everyone from Australia. My Dad is from Kanfanar, came to Australia in 1961. I am lucky that he always spoke about his family and took us back to Istra when I was a liitle kid in 1973. I was in Istra in June/July with my wife and three boys. Thanks to my Dad, we know all of our family in Kanfanar, Rovinj, Porec and Rovinsko Selo. What a great site this is. I have just started to explore it. BTW, if any one has any links to Istrian music I would appreciate it. I teach and play guitar and am looking for traditional music. Peace to all, Peter
