Sto tentando di ricostruire l'albero genealogico della mia famiglia Sissot (detta anche "Turani") in Verteneglio. Mio nonno era Albino Sissot, e mio zio era Don Stefano Sissot (parroco a Roiano TS). Qualcuno sa dove posso trovare info anteriori al 1900?

Just found a 1999 posting from Gianfranco Meladossi looking for information on his grandfather Benedetto Meladossi from Montona. My mother Daria Meladossi was born in Montona in 1921. I would be very interested in exchanging information and seeing if there is a connection between our families.

Hi - my father is from the Visignano area, I believe he said he was born in the small village of San Marco in 1925. His mother's maiden name was Cucar and his grandmother's maiden name was Dell'Oste. I would be grateful for any information about any of these family names that may be available.

I read a post on a forum saying that the American pro wrestler Gorilla Monsoon (Robert Marella, 1937-1999) was of Istrian descent. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I am so happy to see this site... I found it by looking up my name and found an old wedding photo of me and some of my family attending a wedding in 1959 at the Hotel St George in Brooklyn... I am very impressed by this site and the others created by the author... I think we probably met each other when I lived in Park Slope as a teenager... Hi, My mother is from Fontane, family name Simetich (Simetic) born 1928-2013 and my father is from Sugari, Barbana, family name Battel (Batel) born 1920 -( ) Istria.
I stumbled across this looking for more info on my dad and his time in Dachau, 1944-1945. This has been very helpful.
Family are still living in Pula and surrounding Istria.
I was there in 1975. Hope to make it back soon. Any cousins out there, would love to catch up.

My parents are 92 and 88 now and were refugees to the US from Istria after WW2. My mother's father's family were from Rovigno. It is really special to see a site dedicated to Istria.

I am so happy to find this website. ISTRIA--My Father comes from Fiume/Rijeka( Franicevich) born 1920, and my Mother( Mercovich) came fom POLA/Pula born 1930. I have found a little bit of information from my Fathers side, but cannot find anything from my Mothers side, in Pola. Is there records that can be checked, to find marriages births etc on line?? I encourage readers of this site to do a DNA test. I have done it through the 23andMe company. They test a saliva sample. Two of the things that they report back with are likely of interest to readers of this site. One is that it will show "countries" of your DNA's origin. Mine shows a lot of Romanian, which initially was a surprise to me. It also shows relatives (close and distant) who have taken the test from 23andMe. The cost of the test is currently $99. You can order it on-line and they send you the kit. A key is to allow contact with others who show some level of relationship, and to allow contact through the site. I would expect many of us to be distant cousins.

My grandfather was from Podtsrana, Croatia. Cousins there said that the church records said that the first Cicerich in Podstrana came from the Ciceria area in Istria in the 1600s. There are other names in the town that might be of Istro-Romanian origin (and I might be related to them) - Dumicic, Glavinavich, Vlasich. I had a DNA test done through 23andMe, and I came up as being part Romanian, with distant cousins in Transylvania.

My father’s family is from Pola. I visited Pola in 2013, and was fortunate to locate members of my grandmother’s family (Franco/Francovich). This enabled me to get a better understanding of my grandmother’s family, but I am still looking for information about my grandfather (Pietro Petranich) and his family. Pietro Petranich was born in Pola and died in 1945, aged 59 years. He married Maria Francovich and had two sons Livio (my father) and Lodovico (my uncle). Livio and Lodovico Petranich were the only members of the Petranich family to migrate to Australia – after the Second World War.

I understand that Pietro Petranich did not have any brothers and sisters, but had cousins. I think that one of his cousins migrated to Canada and another migrated to Argentina.
