Belltower and Chapel Behind the Church of St. George

Italiano

Going up the Brdo hill to reach the Church of St. George, there is a clearing where there is a chapel containing a crucifix at full human scale.

Between the chapel and the bell tower of the Church of St. George are two trees - a large oak and a giant elm that is nearly the height of the 35 m. bell tower.

The isolated sandstone belltower (35 m.) which rises about ten metres higher than the church, was constructed in 1765 by Giorgio Pezulich, as remembered by the inscribed stone above the entrance:

ERECTUM
A FODMENTIS
SUB PARROCCHO
GEORGIO PEZULICH
ANNO 1765

(raised from the ground up under parish priest Giorgio Pezzulich in 1782)

Under the free-standing bell tower delineated by two profiled cornices, every side has mullioned windows that can be opened. The spire at the top has an octagonal shape that follows the plan like the spire that overwhelms it.
