General view [with the chapel of St. Anthony?]

The Cemetery of Sv. Marija na krasu (Madonna del Carso)

As in the case of St. Lawrence (San Lorenzo), the cemetery near the parochial church and, as evidenced by what one can see an iron cross at the back of the parsonage. In the second half of the 19th century, the cemetery was moved to its present location near the town. The closed arch of the enclosing wall is dividedinto four parts by two valleys that are perpendicular and which intersect at the center. At the lower level, opposite the entrance, is a small chapel dedicated to St. Anthony.

The tombstones in this cemetery are of recent date, and the oldest is also the most beautiful. It is the funerary monument of the Sossa family, proprieters of the baroque palace in the town. The tombstone was built in 1915 in the shape of a window in Venetian style. On the oldest tombstones are the surnames Babich, Bernardis, Bosdachin, Prodan and Rupena. There is also the tomb of the Clabot family dated 1919 and of a child named Enrico Villanovich [all relatives of Guido Villa], who lived from October 17, 1943 to July 27, 1944.
