Origin/variety: Malmsey is an indigenous, Istrian white variety of grape. Several types of this variety are grown throughout the countries of the Mediterranean, particularly in Italy. In Istria it has been a leading wine producing variety for several centuries. Blessed with lush growth, regular and average to large yield, resistance to fungal diseases, this variety can be depended upon to produce a delectable wine. Characteristics: Light-gold in colour and with a greenish hue, this wine is of harmonious blend, soft to the palate and with a distinct aroma; it has a well developed bouquet and a fragrance which hints of the flowers of the locust tree. Serving: Recommended temperature and accompanying dishes: cooled to a temperature of 10 degrees C this elegant wine goes down well with the gastronomic specialities of Istria, such as roasts with pasta, game with gnocchi, asparagus with ham and eggs, manestra or noodles with cod.
