The surnames on this page are sorted alphabetically in two ways:
by Hamlet and by
Surname. The information is primarily derived from the 1945
Cadastre (see full citation below) which was compiled and published
in two volumes and used as supporting documentation for the
annexation of Istria to Yugoslavia. It contains a variety of
inaccuracies, including the spellings of surnames which were mainly
Slavicized for the purpose of this study, thus not necessarily
consistent with the actual spellings of the surnames at that time or
in prior periods (some of which will be included here in green), as
is also the case with the names of the towns and hamlets. We present
this information solely for genealogy research purposes.
