This section of our site includes only those people who
have made a contribution to
the cultural heritage of Istria and its people. We
exclude all individuals
whose sole claim to fame and/or notoriety stems from their roles as public figures
or in commercial enterprises -
i.e. politicians, soldiers, entrepeneurs, nobility, clergy, and the
casualties of war or violence. A few of these are otherwise mentioned
elsewhere on our site under the categories of History, Gastronomy,
Religion, Sports, etc. Do you recognize any of the famous Istrians in the images below? They have gained regional or international fame in their respective fields of science, literature, philosophy, visual arts, music and the performing arts, and we also include the rare world-class athlete.
