She was built for the Austro-Hungarian company Unione Austriaca for Trieste - Buenos Aires service, later Trieste - Patras - Palermo - Algeria - New York.

After World War I, in 1919, Trieste changed from Austrian to Italian rule and the company changed name to Cosulich Line and operated on the route Genoa - Marseille - New York and carried mostly troops.

In 1929 sold to Lloyd Triestino and in 1936 to Adriatica di Navigazione for Venice - Alexandia service. On 05-12-1944 she was scuttled by the Germans at La Spezia, Italy and in 1949-50 was refloated and scrapped.
