EVENT

Subject: "United lstrians of the World, ISTRIA 2000."
Purpose: Friendly meeting and socializing in Istria of Istrian emigrants and descendents from all over the world
Date: July 15-22, 2000
Host: County of Istria, Cities and Municipalities of Istria

EXPENSES

Guests/Attendees:

  • Air travel and travel to/from airport to hotel/housing accommodations. Bus fare from Ljubijana or Zagreb to hotel complex in Punta Verudela area of Pula is $18/person, free of charge from Pula airport.

    Your are free to make your own travel and housing arrangements or reserve hotel rooms or apartment in Punta Verudela through your local Istrian club (see list of contacts at bottom of page) at the following rates:

    Adults

    $35-55/day each person for double or $40-63/day for single occupancy
    12-18 yrs. $23-43/day
    Under 12 yrs.

    $25-38/day

  • Tour voucher for excursions includes one meal/day (lunch or dinner) and bus travel - per person:

    Prepaid - $100 (adult) and $70 (child) for the full program, or
    Daily - $20/day on a first-come, first-served basis with bus accommodations not guaranteed

  • Car rental, optional - $35-85/day. Contact your club for detail information on different options.

  • ARENA (reservation for the evening of July 22, 2000 MIK - technical and security coordination)

PROGRAM

Saturday, July 15:

  • Arrival of attendees and reception at Pula Airport. (Note: This is highly impractical and will be substituted with an alternative to accommodate arrivals of all attendees from around the world.)
  • Transportation and accommodation to Pula/Pola hotels
  • Check in and information
  • ID tags (vouchers for excursions) distributed
  • Welcome drink and reception of County Prefect and Mayor of the City of Pula/Pola
  • Dinner

Sunday, July 16:

Pula/Pola

  • 6:30 to 9:00 A.M. - breakfast at hotel
  • 9:00 A.M. - information meeting with organizers and guests
  • 10.00 A.M.  to 12:00 P.M. - historical and economical tour - City of Pula/Pola
  • 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. - lunch at hotel
  • 2:00 P.M. - departure for Rovinj/Rovigno
  • 3:00 P.M. - welcoming ceremony and reception at the office of the  Mayor of Rovinj/Rovigno
  • Walking tour (all parts of the city)
  • Dinner
  • Entertainment
  • Return to hotel

Monday, July 17:

  • 6:30 to 9:00 A.M. - breakfast at hotel
  • 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. - round table discussion in Hotel Histria on the history of Istria
  • Lunch in hotel
  • Departure for Zminj via Savicente
  • Short stay in Savicente for exhibit of Istrian souvenirs
  • Departure to Zminj
  • Tournament of briskula, tresete, boce and "pljocke" (stone pucks)
  • 5:30 P.M. - soccer game
  • Wine exhibit, souvenirs
  • Dinner
  • Night concert at Zminj Castle
  • Return to hotel

Tuesday, July 18:

  • 6:30 to 9:00 A.M. - breakfast at hotel, free day

(Terra Histrica - 2 days)

You have the option of joining any of the four excursions listed below, each requiring an additional fee:

Excursion
1 1/2 day - Brijuni/Brioni; tour bus and guide - $25/person
2 1/2 day - wine roads of Istria; tour bus, guide and wine tasting - $10/person
3 1/2 day - Opatija/Ucka; tour bus, guide and lunch - $15/person
4 1/2 day - boat trip from Pula to Venice; boat, guide (lunch excluded) - $50/person
  • Dinner at hotel
  • Dance night on Terrace Veredula in hotel village

Wednesday, July 19:

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • 10:30 A.M. - departure for Labin
  • 11:30 A.M. - welcome toast and reception by the Mayor or Labin
  • Meeting at the City Plaza
  • Folklore day
  • Lunch
  • Games
  • Dinner
  • Concert
  • Return to hotel

Thursday, July 20:

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • 9:00 A.M. - departure from Pula to Lim
  • Picnic on the Lim/Leme "Sardela party"
  • Departure for Poreč/Parenzo
  • Welcome ceremony by the Mayor of Poreč
  • Our of old city
  • Dinner
  • Concert on the boardwalk (riva)

Friday, July 21:

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Departure for Motovun
  • Short tour of Motovun
  • Departure for Pazin
  • Lectures/open conference on different subjects at Memorial Hall with leaders of Istria County
  • Lunch
  • Folklore
  • Ethnographic museum - visit and lecture "lstria through history"
  • Return to hotel
  • Formal/festive "goodbye" dinner
  • Repeated performance of MIK with many Istrian entertainers
  • Salutation ceremony by County of Istria

Saturday, July 22:

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Checkout
