In 452, the Roman town of Colonia Iulia Ĉmona (now Ljubljana, Slovenia) was virtually destroyed by
the
Huns, led by
Attila. Its remaining inhabitants fled the city; some of them made it
to the coast of Istria where they founded a "second Emona", Ĉmonia
or Emonia, which became
the present town of Novigrad (Cittanova) which means "New City".
