Nato a San Lorenzo nel 1937, si e' laureato all'Accademia di Arti figurative di Zagabria nel 1963. Nel 1970 ha iniziato la propria attivita' di scultore realizzando 22 sculture all'aperto. Dal 1984 è professore ordinario al Dipartimento di Arti Figurative della Facolta' di Filosofia di Fiume.Ha all'attivo 70 mostre personali ed ha partecipato a 250 mostre collettive in Croazia ed all'estero. E' cofondatore e coordinatore del simposio mediterraneo di scultura di Dubrova ad Albona.


Josip Diminic (r. 1937) zavrsio je Skolu primijenjenih umjetnosti u Zagrebu 1957., a kasnije Akademiju likovnih umjetnosti. Ostvario je brojne skulpture u javnim prostorima i posve iznimnu spomenicku plastiku, posebno u Labinu i u drugim mjestima u Istri, a nacjelovitiji njegov projekt je osnivanje i vodjenje Mediteranskoga kiparskoga simpozija s parkom skulptura Dubrova kod Labina s djelina stranih i domacih kipara. Izlozba, koju prate i crno -  bijele fotografije ptica Egona Hreljanovica, otvorena je do kraja godine.

Rođen 17. IV. 1937 u Svetom Lovreču kraj Labina. 

Završio je u Zagrebu Školu primijenjene umjetnosti 1957., a 1963. diplomirao je slikarstvo na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu u klasi profesora Marina Tartaglie. Od 1964. živi u Labinu. Od 1978. predaje na Pedagoškom fakultetu u Rijeci, gdje je u zvanju redovitog sveučilišnog profesora od 1984. godine. Od sedamdesetih godina u njegovom djelu prevladavaju obojeni reljefi u drvu i skulpure u drvu, kamenu i bronci. Forma je nefiguralna, sažeta od elementarnih organskih simbola i znakova. U kasnijem razdoblju prevladavaju antropomorfni oblici i stilizirane forme ptice. Samostalno je izlagao na brojnim izložbama u zemlji i inozemstvu. Autor je više javnih spomenika. Suosnivač je likovne skupine “Labinski atelieri”, Mediteranskog slikarskog simpozija, periodične izložbe Ars Histriae i Međunarodne kiparske škole u Vrsaru. Živi u Labinu.

Josip Diminić was born on June 17, 1937 in Sv. Lovreć, Diminići, near Labin (Albona), Istria. 

After successfully completion of his studies at the School for Applied Arts in 1957, he graduated with a degree in painting from the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Professor Marin Tartaglia in 1963. He returned to Labin in 1965 where he still lives and works today. 

Besides painting, in the period from 1966 to 1969 his artistic endeavors included ceramics and sculpture. Since 1970 he has been working strictly in sculpture. He is a member of the "Forum" Gallery in Zagreb since 1975 and a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Rijeka, Department of Fine Arts.

Diminić is one of the founders and is the artistic director of the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium in Dubrova, Labin. Since 1959, he has participated at exhibitions - 75 one man and 270 group exhibitions to date. He is an author of 10 bibliophile graphic maps. He also participated in 19 symposiums and colonies of the arts and was commissioned to create 22 sculptures for public areas and he designed four books. In 1982 the Publishing center Rijeka published the monograph about his work written by Vlado Buzancic.

  • 1976 - Annual Award for the visual art "Josip Racic" given by the "Vjesnik" Zagreb  Golden Plaque of the "Labin Republic", Labin First Prize for the sculpture Ars Histriae V, Labin 
  • 1977 - Award for the sculpture at the 13th Zagreb Salon, Zagreb Section "Proposal" 
  • 1980 - Redemptory Award of the "Novi List" Rijeka at the 7th Intentional Exhibition of the Original Drawings 
  • 1981 - Award of the League of the Artists of Yugoslavia for the sculpture at the 7th Exhibition of the League of the Associations of the Artists of Yugoslavia, Skopje 
  • 1982 - Award for the sculpture of the 4th Autumn Salon, Dubrovnik 
  • 1991 - Award of the 4th Triennial of Croatian Sculpture 
  • 1994 - Award of the 5th Triennial of Croatian Sculpture 
  • 1996 - Award of Town Labin Awarded by the President of the Republic of Croatia with order of Croatian Danica with the figure of Marko Marulic 
  • 1997 - Winner of the Plaque "Harmony" at the 1st Water-color Festival of Croatia Split 1998 Diploma at 1st Art Addiction Annual in Venice - Masks in Venice, Palazzo Correr, Venice, Italy
